Tinmouth board vets paving grant scope and bridge milling to avoid added structural load

A committee member warned that work across the bridge must not increase the structure’s dead load: "We don't wanna have a mill to the bare deck... I would say over the existing bridge structure, mill an inch instead of 0.75 of an inch," the member said. The board asked staff to note approach lengths on both ends of the bridge so ramps are handled and to avoid leaving the bridge deck under additional permanent weight.
Members also asked staff to double-check the grant-cost numbers and return a final verified estimate so the town can submit an accurate grant application and be ready for bids expected back in May. The board emphasized the need to align milling depth, approach work and the grant scope so the project won’t inadvertently increase structural loads.
