The Box Elder County Planning Commission approved a temporary use permit (TUP26-001) allowing Rocky Mountain Power to temporarily store steel transmission poles on a portion of a site for a reconductor project running from Smithfield to Wheeland. Planning staff said the storage area would use about 17 acres of the parcel, would be graded and managed for dust control, secured with a minimum 6-foot perimeter fence and operated during daylight hours; the permit term discussed was May 2026 through December 2026.
Wes Fox identified himself at the meeting as "Wes Fox with, Rocky Mountain Power. I'm the regional business manager," and described the staging as part of a larger reconductor project. Fox said the staging is "a pretty slow process" and offered to provide truck-count estimates upon request. Staff noted the fire marshal and road superintendent had approved relevant portions of the application and recommended approval subject to conditions in the staff report. A commissioner moved to approve TUP26-001 adopting the staff findings and conditions; the motion was seconded and approved.
