ST. JAMES, Minn. — The Watonwan County Board on April 7 approved a resolution authorizing a public sale of tax-forfeited land to the highest bidder on May 6, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the commissioners’ room at the Watonwan County Courthouse.
The notice specifies sale procedures pursuant to Minnesota Statutes §282.01: parcels are offered at public auction with the minimum acceptable bid set at the basic sale price listed for each parcel; a 3% state assurance surcharge will be collected; a state deed fee of $25, a deed filing fee of $46.00 and a deed tax of $1.65 (or 0.33% of the basic sale price over $3,000) apply. Example parcels listed include a Butterfield property (Parcel ID 13.151.4320) with a basic sale price of $500.00 and pre-forfeiture assessments of $2,137.25, and a Darfur parcel (14.100.0650) listed at $100.00 with $2,815.01 assessments.
