County opens bids for Hickory Grove Beach improvements; six bids received

At a July 21 meeting the Story County Board of Supervisors heard a bid opening for Hickory Grove Beach improvements. Ryan Wiemold, Interim Conservation Director, and Pat Shehan, Special Projects Ranger, opened and read six bids and acknowledged bid bonds and addenda for each submission.
The bids reported were Caliber Concrete of Adair, Iowa, $1,169,146.34; Concrete Connection of Johnston, Iowa, $1,171,485.50; Jensen Builders of Des Moines, $1,441,614.00; Big Lake Construction of Des Moines, $1,524,000.00; Cushman Excavation LLC of Knoxville, $1,648,007.75; and RW Excavating Solutions of Prairie City, $2,053,265.00. Wiemold told the Board that Conservation staff will review the bids and return with a recommendation on award at a future meeting.
No award was made at the July 21 meeting; the Board received the opened bids as the first formal procurement step and will consider staff recommendations when they are available.
