Huachuca City Council orders active enforcement of code to preserve property appearance

Council directed town staff to adopt a more active approach to enforcing the Town Code across zoning, health and safety, building and construction, and neighborhood-preservation provisions. Town Manager Suzanne Harvey said staff and the Police Department have discussed an enforcement posture and that Council should be mindful enforcement could prompt legal challenges and expense.
"We are prepared to be aggressive, but she wants Council to be cognizant that some people may fight us on it and it may end up in court, so it may end up costing us some money," Manager Harvey said, noting the community feedback at a recent CDBG meeting. Mayor Wallace confirmed Council wants active enforcement and equal application of the law.
Council did not adopt a new ordinance at the meeting; instead members gave direction to staff to implement active enforcement practices and to return with any legal or budget impacts for further consideration.
