County to front $15,000 for tree clearing to meet bat‑habitat deadline on County Road 161 project

County Engineer Darrick Anderson told the Board the work is south of Remer and partially funded by the State Park Road Account; to meet an April 15 environmental deadline related to Northern Long‑Eared Bat habitat protections, the County will advance the $15,000 clearing cost and be reimbursed by state park road funds. Anderson said this keeps the project on schedule for 2026 construction.
Commissioner Neal Gaalswyk moved to approve the agreement with Smoky Hollow Township for tree clearing on SAP 011-600-020; Commissioner Scott Bruns seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The meeting record identifies the action as budget-neutral because state funds will reimburse the County for the fronted expense.
