Gun Barrel City council adopted Resolution R-2026-014 on July 28 to formalize the municipal maintenance agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation. Interim city manager Steve Norwood introduced the item and said the agreement largely formalizes existing responsibilities and contains few substantive changes.
Eduardo "Eddy" Castaneda, TxDOT area engineer for Henderson County, told the council the agreement authorizes TxDOT to work within the city limits on state highways and noted an upcoming improvement project at the intersection of State Highway 198 and State Highway 334 that proposes raised medians several hundred feet in each direction to improve safety. "Basically, we're the area engineer for Henderson County ... we were asked to present it to the council formally," Castaneda said, adding the measures are intended to address several safety factors at the intersection.
Council moved to approve the resolution, received a second and recorded unanimous votes in favor. Staff said streets and maintenance reviewed the agreement and concurred.
