Residents press council on sewer, streetlight, drainage and splash-pad problems in District 1 and District 3

Multiple residents used the public-comment portion of the July 28 meeting to press the council for follow-up on long-running public-works problems: a sewer cavity and standing water at 809 East Church Street that a business owner said has persisted for more than two years; debris and railroad-tie litter on a city-owned spur that contributes to flood risk; numerous dark or obstructed streetlights; and a splash pad reported out of service for weeks at Mooney Park.
Anthony Perkins, who identified himself as operator of Teepees Grill and Catering, said crews had told him the work would be performed but that the condition has persisted and the problem is encroaching on his yard and business. "It's been almost 2.5 to 3 years... I need an answer. I need it today," he told the council. Staff said they would have streets and water-and-sewer crews inspect the locations, issue work orders and report back at the next meeting; staff also said they would clarify whether portions of the rail spur are city-owned or are the railroad’s responsibility and would coordinate with energy providers and streets crews to address lighting.
