After several residents urged the Board to decide on a location for a proposed recreation and wellness center, the Board reached consensus to designate County-owned property at North Hawksbill Street and Furnace Road in Luray as the potential site. Supervisor Jeff Vaughan moved to authorize a Request for Quote (RFQ) to solicit costs and proposals for the recreation and wellness center at that location; Supervisor Allen Louderback seconded the motion, and it carried 6-0.
Members of the public had framed the project as more than a single facility. Christine Sennott told the Board it is "more than a building it is public health, youth development, economic development, community connection, and an investment in Page County," and other commenters similarly urged the Board to move forward so an RFQ could be issued. The RFQ is intended to provide cost estimates and proposals to help the Board decide next steps; staff will return those responses for further discussion.
