Recreation director Mordie Askew reported the transition from basketball to baseball season and ongoing staffing gaps, including an open recreation position and a need for umpires. County public-works updates (reported by County Manager Thomas Weaver on behalf of staff) noted repairs at Well #4, heater replacements, hydrant adjustments, road locates for fiber work and two recent internal promotions in the public-works crew (a new mechanic and a new foreman). Animal-control reports noted an increase in stray dogs; staff observed some animals with collars, indicating possible dumping rather than true strays.
During public comment, Robert Sumner of Lafayette Road described training activities at the NSA compound and offered to coordinate charity events and volunteer work to benefit the community at no cost to the county. Commissioners thanked attendees and added several departmental items to future agendas.
