County reports insurance broker change, streetlight fixes and splashpad timeline

At the May 27 work session County Manager Thomas Weaver told the commission that the county's former broker had not conveyed a 49% proposed increase from the carrier in a timely way, prompting a broker change and active work to seek lower rates. "We also have several commercial accounts that have not been paying for trash," Weaver added, saying letters were sent to delinquent commercial customers.
Weaver said public works and Sumter corrected 37 county-maintained streetlights and that two homes at Magnolia Homes are framed with another under construction. He said the Splashpad inspection is pending the Health Department's return and that the planned opening date was June 5; gym floor replacement was planned around June 16. The commission thanked staff for ongoing operational work and agreed to place related agenda items on the next regular meeting as needed.
