County to prioritize Friendship Road repairs, advance CUP review and HB581 outreach at Feb. work session

In a Jan. 27 work session the county manager said the board will use 2024 LMIG funds and SPLOST account planning to repair Friendship Road and possibly Liberty Hill Road, invite Planning & Zoning to review the conditional-use permit process, consider shrinking the P&Z board from seven to five members, and prepare public outreach on HB581 and a November sales-tax question.
At the Jan. 27 work session County Manager Thomas Weaver outlined several items for near-term action: the county will prioritize Friendship Road repairs using 2024 LMIG funds, create a SPLOST bank account for future receipts, and place cemetery bylaws and conditional-use permit (CUP) process review on the next work-session agenda.
Manager Weaver asked that the Planning & Zoning Board be invited to the Feb. 24 work session, proposed moving that meeting to an evening time (6 p.m.), and noted Planning & Zoning has requested consideration of changing from a seven-member to a five-member board. Commissioners agreed to prioritize Friendship Road, with Liberty Hill Road noted as adjacent work.
Weaver also discussed HB581 and the county’s decision to remain opted in; he said the county will likely hold a special election in November on a sales-tax question and will create an informational flyer to notify residents. Reappointments to Planning & Zoning (Randy Register, Teresa Smith, Willie Brown) were added to the Feb. 4 agenda.
