"A dark cloud hangs over us," Williams told commissioners, saying the county suffers from "mismanagement and lack of respect" and that residents feel ignored and threatened. He alleged selective enforcement tied to political signs and said a tax assessor visited his property after he asked to be on the agenda.
Commissioner Damon Hoyte thanked Williams and said he would look into the alleged retaliation. Chairman Charles Coffey responded to the specific allegations in the meeting, saying that, "to request for a homestead you have to request in writing and he has only ever done so on one piece of property," and that an assessor error affected multiple people. Coffey also said he has no family on county payroll and that he serves the county for the public good.
The board did not take formal action during public comment; commissioners said they would review the concerns raised and, where appropriate, follow up through staff or legal channels.
