Commission discusses SPLOST-funded projects and vehicle replacements, explores sheriff trade for public works

County Manager Thomas Weaver briefed the commission on SPLOST-funded capital outlays and imminent equipment needs, including replacement trucks and courthouse projects. Weaver told the board that many vehicle and special project items were planned to be covered with SPLOST funds rather than the operating budget.
Chairman Coffey asked whether a trade of a sheriff's department vehicle would help public works; Weaver said it could and that he would reach out to the sheriff to see if the department remained interested in a trade. The commission also approved a procurement motion for a tractor (see separate article) and noted that several capital items—if not purchased from SPLOST—would otherwise affect the operating budget.
