Charles Coffey was confirmed as chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County at the board’s Jan. 7 regular meeting.
An initial motion by Commissioner Damon Hoyte to appoint Commissioner Timothy Biddle as chairman received no second and died. A later motion by Commissioner Gerald Douglas to appoint Coffey, seconded by Commissioner Jason Frost, passed with Hoyte recorded as the lone dissent. Commissioners then unanimously appointed Commissioner Biddle as vice chairman.
The board also moved through routine approvals. Commissioners voted unanimously to approve minutes from the Dec. 3, 2024 regular meeting, the Dec. 3 executive session minutes, the Dec. 23 work session minutes, and the Dec. 23 executive session minutes. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Coffey at 9:00 a.m. and livestreamed on the county Facebook page.
The board’s action followed standard procedural practice for leadership appointments: a motion, a second (when present), and recorded votes. No substantive policy change accompanied the leadership votes; those actions adjusted panel roles ahead of the regular business agenda.
