County reports: farmer relief payments begin; Fairview water leak estimated at 1.2 million gallons

County Administrator Stephen A. Boyer updated the Board on several operational items during the March 12 meeting. He said the Virginia Farmers Recovery Block Grant has started releasing payments: 12 of 101 applicants are in process and the payments to those 12 total roughly $142,000; checks are expected to be issued in about two weeks.
Boyer also reported the Fairview water system experienced two leaks; one leak was fixed Feb. 10 with an estimated loss of 1.2 million gallons and staff are working on the second. He announced a Household Hazardous Waste collection and personal document shredding event on April 11 (1–4 p.m.) at the Public Works Facility, said the Virginia Household Water Program offers test kits for $70 via Kevin Spurlin, and reminded residents that large-item pickup begins March 16 on Monday routes.
