The Bertie County Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted the Mid East Region Digital Inclusion Plan after a presentation by Jamie Heath of the Mid East Commission. Heath described a regional planning process involving 99 steering-committee members, 389 survey respondents and multiple public meetings; the resolution to adopt the plan passed without objection.
Heath outlined the plan’s vision "a digitally inclusive Mid East Region where every individual has equitable access to affordable and reliable Internet, digital skills training, essential devices and support services," and summarized grant-ready priority projects such as a device access program, Internet subsidy program, improvements to broadband networks and public access Wi‑Fi locations. Heath said the plan is intended to support local grant applications and asked community organizations to join an implementation committee. The board’s formal resolution found the plan’s content and priorities consistent with the county’s vision and unanimously approved adoption.
Adopting the plan places Bertie County in a regional framework intended to guide future grant applications and implementation work, including project profiles that staff and partners can use when seeking funding.
