Bertie County agrees to contribute ~$7,000 to sustain local reentry council through year end

Staff told the board the state reduced funding for the Local Reentry Council (LRC), which serves four counties in the region. Gregory Singleton and partners had asked the counties to divide the shortfall so the LRC could operate through Dec. 31, 2025.
Staff recommended Bertie County contribute approximately $7,000 — funds that could come from an unfilled nuisance and abatement position, a month of an assistant county manager vacancy, or unexpected revenue from a recent property sale. "Providing $7,000 would allow the LRC staff to work through 12/31/2025," a staff presenter said. The board moved to contribute the approximate amount and the motion passed by voice vote.
Staff said the LRC has served about 20 participants across the four counties, five of whom are from Bertie County; commissioners requested periodic updates on outcomes and how the state funding outlook evolves.
