"This policy includes, no cell phone usage, bell to bell," Doctor White said during the second reading. The policy follows a first reading and a period of parent and student feedback; the administration said the high-school approach will align with middle-school practice (phones off in lockers), with staff and administrators visible in hallways during passing times to enforce the rule.
A trustee formally moved to approve the policy as presented; the motion was seconded and approved. The change will be incorporated into the student handbook that the board will consider for final approval in August.
The administration said the district piloted similar enforcement at the middle school and plans to refine implementation in the early weeks of the school year as needed.
