Laura Corsini, chair of the Tourism Development Authority, presented the TDA quarterly report and the county’s plans to expand tourism promotion. Corsini said the TDA recently added four seats to its board and has begun collecting occupancy tax: “we have collected thus far $7,429.35,” she reported. The TDA plans committees for finance, festivals and historic preservation, and is preparing at least two new websites — one for tourism itineraries and one for the TDA’s internal reporting and meeting schedules.
Corsini also said she is representing Patricia Ferguson and the Pecan Pickling Film Festival committee in launching a regional film commission with seven counties; the first regional meeting is scheduled March 11 at the River Center in Windsor. She noted difficulties obtaining breakdowns from Airbnb for occupancy reporting and said staff will continue seeking detailed records to improve accuracy. Commissioners asked logistical questions about partnerships and local lodging’s inclusion in itineraries; Corsini offered to provide further information at the next meeting.
