Williams Bay board to recommend four-year, non‑recurring referendum to voters

"Missus Frederick and I will be bringing a recommendation to the board at the August 8 meeting to put a referendum question on the November ballot," Doctor White told trustees, adding the recommendation will be for a four‑year, non‑recurring question. He said the district is still finalizing exact figures but is currently considering options of roughly $2,250,000 to $2,750,000 per year.
District leadership described the proposal as intended to align with the district's biannual budget projections while aiming to keep the levy largely steady. "Right now, that's projected to keeping the levy steady for the most part," Doctor White said, while acknowledging modest levy increases could occur in some years to account for inflation and costs such as health insurance and staffing.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the four‑year term and whether voters would support a recurring increase. Doctor White said the district preferred a non‑recurring measure because a recurring levy increase (in perpetuity) is unlikely to gain public support. The board expects the administration to firm up exact dollar amounts and present a formal recommendation at the August 8 meeting.
Next steps: the administration will return to the board on Aug. 8 with a formal recommendation and finalized figures for a referendum question to appear on the November ballot.
