The Bertie County Board of Commissioners selected leadership for the 2026 calendar year, appointing Corey Ballance as chairman and Louis Haggard as vice chairman. County Manager Warren Vaughn opened nominations under the applicable selection statute and the board voted to confirm the nominees.
Vaughn explained the statutory schedule for choosing the presiding officer and vice chair and opened the floor for nominations. “So I have a nomination for chairman for Corey Ballance and vice chairman Louis Haggard,” he said. Commissioner Robinson moved to keep both officers the same; following a roll-call confirmation the board said the selections were approved. The board recessed briefly but returned immediately because the officers remained unchanged.
The leadership vote precedes the board’s legislative and administrative work for the coming year; commissioners offered brief remarks of appreciation after the confirmation. No objections were recorded and the positions were reported as filled for the 2026 calendar year.
