Bertie County adopts internal controls policy required by state; posting deadlines moved to Jan. 1

County staff asked the board to adopt an internal controls policy required by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality and to approve an associated property‑management policy. Staff noted the county’s ongoing migration to a cloud website and requested the deadline for public posting be moved to Jan. 1 to allow technical changes.
"We need to get it adopted today as soon as possible," a staff presenter said, then explained that reports and ARPA/CSLFRF award information will be posted on the county website by Jan. 1. Commissioners moved, seconded and approved adoption of the internal controls policy during the session.
Staff also discussed coordination with the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) for policy review and possible training opportunities; they said the unit‑assistance list status and prior late audits motivated attention to internal controls.
