Commissioners approve recommissionings, board appointment and community matching grants

The Board of Commissioners approved several personnel, appointment and community funding items during the Dec. 17 meeting. Resolutions approved included recommissioning Michael Pike and John Dunay as Somerset County Sheriff’s Deputies (Resolutions 25-226 and 25-229) and appointing James Wood of Fairfield to the Kennebec Valley Community Action Program (KVCAP) Board of Directors (Resolution 25-227). Commissioners also accepted the resignation/retirement of Eric Plourde from the I/T Department and thanked him for nearly 15 years of service (Resolution 25-330).
Commissioners approved matching grant payments from Community Benefit Funds to four local organizations: LC Bates Museum (waterproofing) $8,750; Baker Mountain (lodge repairs) $3,000; Margaret Chase School (PE equipment) $4,000; and Skowhegan/Madison Elks Club (outdoor lighting) $2,550. Those payments will close out grants issued in December 2024 with no projects left unfinished, county staff said. All motions carried 5-0.
