Commissioners award sheriff’s truck to local dealer after reconsideration

Somerset County Commissioners voted unanimously on Dec. 3, 2025, to award the bid for a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 to Hight Chevrolet of Skowhegan for a net price of $44,709 after trade. The award followed an earlier decision to pass over the related resolution and a subsequent motion to reconsider prior to adjournment.
Commissioner Don Skillings moved to award the bid, seconded by Commissioner John Alsop; the motion carried 5-0. During discussion Skillings questioned whether the Silverado 1500 was necessary “if this was not a police package vehicle,” and Administrator Tim Curtis responded that the purchase was budgeted, vetted through a competitive bid process, and could be addressed in future budget discussions about vehicle types. The three bids opened at the meeting listed Hight Chevrolet at a net $44,709, O’Connor Chevrolet at a net $48,099, and One Nation (PA) at a net $50,430.
