Finance Director Patrick Dolan told the commission that health-insurance rates provided by the Maine Municipal Employee Health Trust will increase by 11.2% as of Jan. 1, following an 11.8% increase last year. Dolan said staff are comparing rates and plans from other providers and presented an option to switch to Cigna, which he said would be approximately 15% lower with similar coverage and out-of-pocket costs.
Commissioners requested a presentation from Cigna representatives at the next meeting and asked Dolan to confirm costs if the County chose to change by Feb. 1. No formal decision to change providers was made during the Nov. 5 meeting.
