Bret Schardein provided the committee with an update on the school-based mental health program and its implications for the FY27 budget. He said that “funding from HCPS was removed in their proposed budget, which means that revenue will not be realized in the CSB proposed budget.”
Mr. Schardein said the CSB can internally cover one of the five positions no longer funded by HCPS by reallocating other funding, but efforts to secure funding for the remaining positions are ongoing and challenging in a tight budget year. He also reviewed process dates: the County Administrator will present a proposed budget on Feb. 18, the budget public hearing is scheduled for Apr. 1, and budget adoption for Apr. 8.
