Planning Commission to hold public hearing on rescinding county zoning ordinance

Staff told the Zoning Board that the Planning Commission has been directed by the Public Works & Human Services Committee to hold a public hearing to take public input on considering rescinding the county zoning ordinance in its entirety. The hearing was scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 06:00, after which the Planning Commission will make a recommendation to Public Works & Human Services, which will forward a recommendation to the Board of Commissioners.
Staff said they are already working with larger applicants, such as surface-mining operations, to make them compliant before any ordinance changes take effect so those applicants are protected. "I am working with a lot of our bigger applicants... to get them compliant prior to any changes taking place," the staff member said. The announcement included no formal action by the Zoning Board; it was an information item and a scheduling notice for a separate public hearing.
