The Carlton County Committee of the Whole voted March 3, 2026 to approve a letter of support for an FDL/Bemidji State University whitetail deer study. Mike Schrage, identified in the agenda as “FDL Wildlife Program Manager,” explained how deer are captured and how the study will track movement, ranges and causes of mortality.
Mark Westpahl moved to support the project; Tom Proulx seconded the motion and the committee approved it. The presentation also noted an intention to involve local high school students to increase community awareness about wildlife research and to potentially expand the local species focus in the future.
