Public works: wells, ditch repairs and a $1,700 microchipping grant; Fort Benning facility status updated

County Manager Thomas Weaver and public-works staff provided a roundup of operations at the April 28 work session. Weaver said Well #3 had been shut down and Well #4 was offline while Well #1 was carrying the system's load; staff have asked a contractor to investigate repeated outages and a possible lightning strike. Public works reported completed ditch repairs near the county cemetery and shoulder repairs on multiple roads, and library benches were installed by the crew.
Weaver also reported a $1,700 grant for animal microchipping that will apply to animals at both Ft. Benning and county facilities; Ms. Beck (staff member) received a pickup with donated dog food connected to that effort. On the Ft. Benning stray facility, Weaver said the county had put in work orders and the facility remains available, but some remedial actions remain the responsibility of Ft. Benning under existing intergovernmental agreements. Commissioners requested follow-up reports on well-reliability and the contractor’s findings.
