County Attorney Binford ("Bin") Minter informed the commission that he has joined a new firm and that his hourly rate will increase to $325 per hour effective Jan. 1. Minter said the engagement letter primarily facilitates transfer of files and recommended the board take a formal vote to confirm continued legal representation under the new firm structure. He noted that the county charter assigns appointment of the county attorney to the commission.
Chairman Coffey and commissioners discussed whether an annual vote was required; Minter said the charter provision does not require an annual reappointment but recommended a vote in light of the changed firm affiliation. The board added the attorney rate increase and engagement letter to the agenda as a voting item to be considered at the next regular meeting.
