Resident representative questions driveway citations and county cleanup after heavy rain

JD Abercrombie spoke at the Oct. 1 regular meeting for resident Teresa Parrish to challenge a code enforcement warning she received for dirt washing into Massey Road after heavy rain. Abercrombie said the warning was issued Sept. 13 with seven days to correct and asked how many other driveways that day received warnings; he said the county later took ten days to address a work order on Patterson Road.
County Manager Thomas Weaver told the commission the county issues warnings to inform residents when storms reveal problems and that staff must prioritize limited resources to make roads passable before returning for full repairs. Chairman Charles Coffey said “a warning is a courtesy and we do not have to give them. We can write someone a citation on the spot,” and emphasized staff do the best they can with available resources. The commission did not take further action at the meeting and directed related items to follow‑up by county staff.
