Members of Gardena’s Parks and Recreation Commission introduced themselves at the July 28 council meeting and outlined the commission’s advisory role to the Recreation and Human Services Department.
Commission spokesperson (identified by the mayor) said the five-member commission reviews parks, recreation facilities and programs, promotes community involvement and collaborates with staff and outside organizations. "The commission works to enhance the quality of life of Gardena residents by reviewing and providing recommendations on development improvements in the use of city parks, recreational facilities, and programs," the spokesperson said.
Chair Woods Wilwein Jr., introduced himself as a 51-year Gardena resident with long service on commissions; commissioners Steven Dyson and Philip Johnson also offered brief personal backgrounds and noted recent ribbon-cutting events. The presentation was largely introductory; no council action was required.
