Building Committee member Rex Harris presented a pricing framework that uses a $16-per-hour "unit" multiplied by the space and time rented as the basis for all rental rates. Harris said the committee estimates operating costs around $3,000 a month and that, if spread across households, would equate to roughly $25 per household per month. The committee—s calculation is intended to make the building self-sustaining; Harris told the work session the goal is to "make sure that pricing meets the needs of both the businesses and the residents of Huntsville Town."
Council members expressed different priorities. TCM Sandy Hunter and TCM Bruce Ahlstrom favored resident discounts and recommended barring weddings at the community center to avoid damaging local businesses and the floor; TCM Artie Powell warned of "unintended consequences" if rentals compete with local enterprises. Several council members asked the Building Committee to present formal rules and a fee resolution for adoption at the next Town Council meeting. No formal adoption of a new rate schedule was recorded during the work session.
