School board and union open 2026-27 contract talks, set follow-up meetings

The New Plymouth School Board and the New Plymouth Education Association (NPEA) convened at the district office on April 30, 2026, to begin bargaining over salary and benefits for the 2026–27 school year. The meeting began at 4:30 p.m. and concluded at 7:00 p.m., with a Board caucus held from 5:15 to 6:00 p.m.
The NPEA presented a package of proposals including changes to personal and bereavement leave, sick leave accrual, a request that the District cover a 19.5% increase in insurance premiums for professional employees, a proposed 2% salary schedule increase, and revisions to contracted hours and extra-duty compensation. The Board asked clarifying questions after its caucus and the parties set follow-up negotiation dates for May 14 and a tentative May 18, 2026. The meeting minutes list Trustees Doug Rupp and Jared Kovick, Superintendent Wade Wilson, Clerk Shannon Reece, Cherry Meckert, Brian Walton, Shannon Zimmerman and Mitzi Johnson as present.
