District highlights: intensive learning program, curriculum review and STEM expansion in proposed budget

Superintendent Mark Ranco told the committee the proposed budget funds a new 'intensive learning program' intended to keep certain students in their hometown schools by offering an inclusive, specialized learning environment. "This will be a specific educational program and learning environment that helps to keep certain students in their hometown school," Ranco said, and noted the program is planned to roll out fully in September.
The budget also increases funding for a sustained five-year curriculum review and adoption cycle and expands professional development. Ranco highlighted a continued expansion of computer science and engineering programming (grades 6–12) supported heavily by Project Lead the Way grants and other competitive grant funding. The district expects the curriculum-cycle investment to prevent reliance on outdated instructional materials and to support accreditation work at the high school.
