Administration described a package of changes under a 0‑based budgeting review: an ILP (intensive learning program) for K–2 estimated at about $68,000, a proposed skilled maintenance position, reductions of stipend curriculum coordinator roles with about $35,000 in savings, and other non‑HR reductions totaling $266,081. Officials said these adjustments, attrition and program realignment brought the remaining gap to just above $60,000.
Presenters stressed that programmatic offerings would not be eliminated and cited possible new electives and expansions in STEM and technology. The administration also discussed a reconfiguration of middle school staffing that reduces teacher FTEs through consolidation and a looping model while keeping content‑specific teachers in place.
Officials said they expect to return in two weeks with the budget book and further detail ahead of a public presentation and a school committee vote planned for the 5th, followed by outreach to the select board, Finance Committee and the Rockport Spring Town Meeting on April 5.
