School committee approves communications subcommittee and plans community newsletter

The Rockport School Committee voted to create a communication and advocacy subcommittee and recommended two committee members to serve on it. Chair Kathy Bridal nominated Amy Oakes and Jessica DeLisi; the committee moved, seconded and approved the appointments.
The committee reviewed three newsletter mockups and a proposed "coming soon" postcard to be mailed to every household and business in Rockport. Staff described design options (paper type, font size and distribution cadence) and said the committee hopes to fund the newsletter through advertising. Members who attended the Massachusetts Association of School Committees and Massachusetts Association of Superintendents conferences emphasized controlling the district's narrative, holding listening sessions, and using multiple outreach channels (social media, in-person events, targeted mailers) to reach nonparent constituencies.
The chair said the new subcommittee would meet with central-office staff and the leadership team to finalize the design, schedule and outreach strategy and that staff would email the appointees to begin work. The committee approved the formation of the subcommittee by voice vote with an affirmative vote recorded at the meeting.
