Middle-school students and teacher showcase Project Lead The Way courses

Students and their teacher described hands-on engineering and computer-science projects and how Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is building skills and interest ahead of high-school pathways.
Ali Favaza, the middle-school engineering and computer-science teacher, described implementing Project Lead The Way this year and said the curriculum “incorporates career exposure in a really timely organized manner.”
Students gave short demonstrations and described class projects: Abby Base called it, “Science and technology is so fun,” and Charlotte Cody and others described teamwork on an ice-cream project and electromagnet and app-creation activities. Juniors Beck Guarino and Adam Beaton said PLTW inspired them to pursue high-school engineering courses and helped some students clarify career interests.
Committee members asked about homework, carryover to high school and classroom resources; a committee member noted that some PLTW rooms need more workshop equipment and asked whether the middle-to-high-school feeder structure will be sufficient to sustain student interest. The committee thanked the students and teachers for presenting and applauded the program’s ability to increase engagement and career exposure.
