Fire director credits savings for earlier Quaker Hill coverage; warns volunteer ranks are thin

He said the changes also allowed full‑time staffing at other stations earlier than planned.
Haley warned the volunteer component of the department has declined, noting that while stipend recipients number closer to 25–40, the number of active responding certified firefighters is much lower "probably around 10" and for dual-certified firefighter/EMTs may be in the single digits. He described efforts with local schools and state programs to rebuild recruitment and said the board approved several transfers to support staffing needs.
