Utilities seeks $15M for Westward Treatment Plant upgrades and other water/wastewater improvements

The utilities department presented a multi‑part request aimed at increasing treatment capacity and modernizing the city’s water and wastewater systems. Utilities director reported a $15,000,000 request for capacity improvements at the Westward Treatment Plant that include a reverse osmosis treatment skid, two Florida aquifer production wells, transmission and instrumentation upgrades.
Additional FY26 requests included $5,000,000 for wastewater reclamation facility capacity upgrades and rerating; $3,000,000 for water distribution system rehabilitation (pipe lining, valve/hydrant replacements, leak detection); $2,000,000 for wastewater collection system improvements (trenchless lining and manhole rehabilitation); $4,000,000 tied to storm infrastructure improvements; and smaller requests for building renovations, standby generators and equipment. Staff said some generator purchases are tied to federal grants and emphasized the projects' role in preventing storm‑related sewer overflows and improving system resilience.
