Ottawa County Parks launches first all-day summer camp and new programs

Jessica Van Genhoven, who identified herself as both an Allendale Township resident and an employee of Ottawa County Parks, told the board the parks department will offer its first-ever all-day summer camp starting after school ends, running 11 weeks from June to August for children ages 6–13.
"We're going to allow all of the campers to safely try archery," Van Genhoven said and noted a partnership with the sheriff's department community-policing team. She described weekly, screen-free themes ranging from art to survival and urged parents to register online or contact the nature center for help completing registration.
Van Genhoven also summarized recent staffing changes and program growth: a newly created recreation health-and-wellness program lead has added 15+ programs, including ethical foraging and trail-side first aid, and staff have been working to license multiple camp sites with Michigan LARA.
Commissioners thanked the parks presenter and encouraged broader outreach for families who might need registration assistance or sibling discounts.
