Secondary Roads official reported the countys paving contract near the BMC area exceeded original quantities because field conditions required additional work. "We had some extra quantities that came up during the construction, so we overran the project," the official said, and staff are closing out the contract.
He said the county is performing road-by-road evaluations for statutory 60 mph limits and expects many segments will remain at 55 mph due to geometry or because adjoining jurisdictions (including a Minnesota border road) do not adopt 60 mph statutory limits. "So we'll probably put speed limit signs where we cut while we will, whenever you leave a town and you resume speed, we'll put a speed limit sign," he added. The official said staff expect to present a formal report later summarizing locations, reasons and recommendations for sign placement.
