Huntsville OKs roughly $5,500 fireworks show for July 4

The Huntsville Town Council authorized funding for the town’s July 4 fireworks show during its Feb. 6 meeting, approving a motion to purchase the show the long-standing vendor said was similar in scale to last year’s production.
Ramona Clapperton, representing the family that has conducted Huntsville’s fireworks for years, said she had presented the council with options and noted that "last year they did the $5,500 show." After discussion about budget and potential donor support, TCM Artie Powell moved to authorize the $5,500 show; the motion passed on roll call.
Clapperton’s vendor packet (Attachment #2) lists the supplier’s safety and permit requirements and shows discounted pricing if the town pays by the vendor’s discount deadline. Council members said they would try to seek private donations to supplement the town allocation.
The council recorded the vote and included a refundable cleaning/security deposit in the payment terms. The town will coordinate required permits, fire and police details and NFPA compliance with the vendor before the display.
