Superintendent Mark Branko presented the budget timeline and explained the district is again using a zero-based budgeting process to tie spending to activities rather than prior-year percentages. He said the public budget presentation is scheduled for Feb. 5 and the budget vote will proceed toward an April final action. The superintendent reported, "The gap right now is right around 1000000 dollars," and described ongoing work with the town administrator and selectboard to develop a palatable percentage increase.
Branko explained the operating budget (about 75% town contribution), the school reserve (built from circuit breaker, special-ed transportation and school choice) and the role of grants and user fees. He said the district currently has roughly $2,000,000 in reserve and plans further workshops to identify programmatic priorities and staffing decisions to close the gap without undermining core services.
