Council approves $175,000 upgrade to library and museum climate controls

The Seward City Council voted July 27 to authorize Long Building Technologies to upgrade the building automation controls and replace the steam humidifier for the Seward Community Library and Museum at a cost of $175,366.85.
City staff said the library and museum controls had reached the end of their useful life and had been increasingly difficult to maintain; unstable temperatures and humidity have posed preservation risks for artifacts. “The technology and the controls within the museum and library have reached the end of their useful life and are increasingly difficult to maintain,” the city manager said, adding that replacing controls and the steam humidifier together was more cost‑effective. Council members noted the improvements should make public meeting rooms more comfortable year‑round and that the contractor warrants installation work for one year per the contract language.
Council approved the resolution unanimously.
