Council approves lease of historic Town Hall building to local artist

Local artist Mark Goodson presented plans to lease the historic Town Hall as a studio and proposed repairs including replacing rotted floorboards and other improvements with an estimated materials and labor cost of $6,400. Goodson emphasized his long-term local ties and the potential for rent and sales‑tax revenue for the town.
After a closed session to discuss real estate matters, the council reconvened and voted 5–0 to lease 7381 E. 200 S. to Goodson and to advertise the lease of the building currently housing the Huntsville History Center. "If he rents from the town, they will be getting rent money and sales tax revenue," Goodson said in his presentation. Staff will prepare a formal lease and next steps for tenant improvements.
