At the Feb. 6 town meeting (minutes approved Feb. 20), the council approved spending $5,500 for the July 4 fireworks display. Ramona Clapperton spoke on behalf of the longtime fireworks provider (her son’s company) and the council discussed potential alternatives and donor fundraising to sustain or increase the show in future years. TCM Artie Powell moved to approve $5,500 and TCM Bruce Ahlstrom seconded; the roll-call vote passed 4-0 (minutes, Attachment #5).
Councilors noted that the Clapperton family has provided the display for years and signaled interest in finding new providers or donors as the town’s needs grow. The council also recorded that the 4th programming will include a patriotic production and other events, and staff will place the fireworks contract and fundraising plan on upcoming agendas for follow-up.
