Salem Township’s Planning Commission debated and approved amendments to the township Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance (SALDO) at its Feb. 5 meeting, focusing on fee structure, review fees, and land-development definitions. Commissioners said the existing fees were too low, resulting in taxpayers subsidizing professional review costs, and directed staff to adopt clearer application, review, and escrow language so developers will be invoiced directly for consultant fees rather than the township bearing the cost.
The PC also recommended adopting language from the Municipalities Planning Code (MPC) to define land development, narrowing accessory-building commercial references, and modifying the minor subdivision definition to exclude more than one single-family detached dwelling. Motion to adopt the commission’s amendments was made by John Durco and seconded by Paul Holleran and passed unanimously; a separate motion forwarded the amended revisions to the Board of Supervisors and requested a public hearing so members of the public can testify.
