Chamber outlines housing pipeline, microplex branding and possible air-service study for Alamogordo

Adam Hoppus, executive director of the Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce, told the commission the chamber is pursuing several initiatives intended to attract residents, visitors and businesses. Hoppus said two multi-family projects ' Patriot Point and Sendero ' are planned or under construction and that investors are exploring conversion of a nearby hotel into long-term housing to serve Holloman Air Force Base families. "We estimate this to be over 1,000,000 dollar project between private funds and compensated funds from local businesses," he said while describing private donations and volunteer support for projects like the Gateway Freedom Monument.
Hoppus also discussed a microplex branding effort that treats Alamogordo and Otero County as a combined micropolitan area to increase perceived population for recruitment and an air-service study the chamber hopes to commission: "The establishment of this air service study is a top priority for installation in the local community," he read from a letter attributed to Colonel John Etheridge regarding Holloman's support. Hoppus said early cost estimates for a study ranged widely and that staff will refine the scope before issuing an RFP, with a rough window of 30 to 60 days for next steps. The chamber also reported membership around 450 and plans to expand programming and services for local businesses.
